One of the most important body parts on the horse anatomy is the hooves. Here we have written a few tips that can help maintain the health of their feet.
Pick out your horse’s feet daily and when their hooves look dry and brittle it is a good idea to put hoof oil or hoof moisturizer on them. Sometimes putting on topical solutions is not enough. Take a look at your horse’s diet to see what types of nutrients he is getting.
Biotin, the most common ingredient in hoof supplements, is important to the growth of healthy hooves. Biotin helps with the formation of collagen which makes up connective tissues throughout the body, including skin, bones, cartilage, tendons and hooves. Biotin alone may not be enough.
Amino acids and minerals also benefit the hooves. Lysine, Methionine and Threonine are all essential amino acids. Together these amino acids help connective tissue fibers that give their hooves strength. Minerals such as Zinc, Copper, Cobalt and Manganese plays an important role in the formation of keratin, the structural protein that gives hooves their hardness.
Healthy fats such as fatty acids, Omega 3s and 6s are great for shiny coat, healthy coat, and hooves. You can find these healthy fats in Lecithin, Soy, Flax Seed, or Rice Brand.
For results plan to feed a hoof supplement for at least six months to see results.
